Adaptation
A change that develops in response to repeated demands and adequate recovery. It is a long-view concept, not a conclusion drawn from one successful session.
REFERENCE
Words can make training easier to discuss, but a definition is not a diagnosis and a metric is not a verdict. Solace uses the terms below to describe observations, decisions, and context with care.
The glossary is intentionally practical. Each entry explains how a term may appear in an article, what it can help a reader notice, and where its meaning becomes uncertain. Readers should keep the surrounding context visible rather than treating any single word as a complete account.
A change that develops in response to repeated demands and adequate recovery. It is a long-view concept, not a conclusion drawn from one successful session.
The capacity a person has for useful training on a particular day after considering sleep, work, stress, climate, and recent load.
The ability to repeat a quality of movement or effort as circumstances accumulate. Durability includes decision-making and pacing, not only tissue tolerance.
The internal cost of an external workload. Perceived effort, breathing, heart rate, and mood can all help describe it, with none providing the whole picture.
| Term | Plain-language meaning | Question to ask |
|---|---|---|
| External load | What was done: distance, time, pace, or resistance | What work was completed? |
| Internal response | How the work was experienced by the person | How did the effort feel today? |
| Progression | A planned change in demand over time | Why is the demand changing now? |
| Deload | A period with reduced training demand | What is the reduction intended to support? |
| Context | The surrounding factors that alter meaning | What else was happening this week? |
For example, “my pace was slower and effort was higher during a humid afternoon” is more informative than assigning a broad label without context. Good language makes the next decision more visible while preserving room for correction.
“A definition should open a useful question, not close the conversation.”
